Olive Young can feel less like a drugstore and more like a K-beauty department store on your first visit. The useful approach isn’t to chase every viral item, but to arrive knowing your skin concern, your budget and what you can realistically carry home.
Short answer: bring your physical passport, spend at least ₩15,000 in one receipt for a tax refund, and if you can, time your trip with the Olive Young Sale.
Which store should you visit?
Large tourist-area branches such as Myeongdong carry the broadest selection, and the Myeongdong Global flagship has immediate tax refunds at its checkout. Many neighborhood branches also offer tax-refund services, and Olive Young’s store pages show which services each branch has — check before making a special trip.
How the tax refund works
Olive Young’s Myeongdong Global FAQ sets out the rules:

Ask the cashier before paying rather than assuming every checkout works the same way. If a branch can’t do an immediate refund, ask for a tax-free receipt and claim it at the airport or a refund kiosk.
Time your visit with a sale
Olive Young’s biggest discount event, the Olive Young Sale (올영세일), runs about four times a year — in 2026 it ran March 1–7, May 31–June 6 and August 30–September 5, with the winter sale usually in December. Many items also carry 1+1 or bundle deals outside sale weeks. The tax refund applies on top of sale prices.
Shop for your skin, not the trend
Start with the problem: dryness, sensitivity, acne care, sun protection or cleansing. Then compare size and price per unit. A “best” or “trending” shelf tells you a product is selling — not that it suits your skin. Patch-test unfamiliar active ingredients when you can.
Before you leave Korea
- Photograph the front and ingredient label of anything you love — it makes the exact product easy to find again, even if packaging changes.
- Pack liquids in your checked bag. Toners and lotions over 100 ml can’t go in your carry-on.
