On Sundays, picnic mats, music and footsteps replace the weekday traffic on this bridge.
From September 6 through October 25, Seoul will hold the Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival every Sunday around Jamsugyo Bridge and Banpo Hangang Park. For eight Sundays, traffic stops and the bridge becomes a place for walking, resting and performances.
Jamsugyo is the low bridge directly beneath Banpo Bridge, close to the surface of the Han River. Instead of looking down from a large observation deck, visitors feel the river breeze and water close to eye level. When the cars are gone, it can feel less like central Seoul and more like a short escape from the city.
Programs may change each week, but walking across the bridge is the heart of the festival. Start from Banpo Hangang Park near sunset and you can watch Seoul shift from day to night along the way.
